Hornblower Niagara Cruises Reopening

As we prepare for our opening, we’ve made updates based on guidance from health authorities. These measures are designed to promote: Cleanliness, Physical Distancing and Reduced Contact. It may be different from the last time you visited. But together, we can find new ways to create amazing experiences – and make more memories for you to treasure.

We missed you, and we can’t wait to see you on board. At Hornblower, our guests’ well-being is our number one priority, and recent circumstances have only reinforced and strengthened our commitment to providing the best possible experience from start to finish. We are proud of our excellent safety and sanitation track record and always operate and maintain a rigorous process around cleanliness and hygiene. So, while you can still expect the same high standards and welcoming service, here are the extra steps we are taking to keep everyone healthy.

Our Commitment to Health & Safety

The health and well-being of our guests and crew members is our number one priority. In response to the current COVID-19 pandemic we have implemented several new safety measures including new entry and boarding requirements, which include:

  • Face Coverings: All guests ages 3 and older are always required to wear face coverings when on the premises and on-board the boats. Face masks are available for purchase on-site.
  • Timed Ticketing Entry: To control passenger flow and manage guest capacity, timed ticketing entry will be implemented, and advance group reservations are required.
  • Health Screening: Guests will undergo a health assessment, including record keeping in support of contact tracing efforts, and temperature screening prior to being permitted on the premises. Anyone displaying a temperature of 38° C or higher will be refused entry and ticket(s) will be refunded accordingly.
  • Safety Screening: All guests and personal items may be subject to screening.
    • Guests are permitted to bring a personal item. Personal items include a small purse or handbag, small backpack, infant diaper bag or camera bag. Maximum dimensions are 17.8 x 38.1 x 40.6 centimetres (7 x 15 x 16 inches).
    • Restricted and dangerous articles are strictly prohibited. This includes but is not limited to: suitcases of any size, carry-on luggage, overnight bags, roller bags, briefcases, coolers, trunks, dangerous articles, and all other items that exceed the maximum dimensions for personal allowances.
    • Please note that additional personal item allowance and entry restrictions may be imposed at the checkpoint without prior notice.
    • All guests riding the boat require a ticket to board.
    • Outside food and beverage is not permitted.
    • Our attraction is a smoke-free environment including no smoking of tobacco and cannabis, as well as no vaping.
  • Reduced Guest Capacity: the Voyage to the Falls boat tour will hold no more than 100 passengers, which is less than 15% of the total 700-passenger capacity.
  • Focus on Sanitizing: increased cleaning frequency for high-contact areas using approved products as well as providing guests with access to hand sanitizer stations throughout the premises.
  • Physical Distancing: Best practices in physical distancing will be implemented including the use of floor markers, directional arrows, communication signage, installation of plexi-glass at service counters, ample staging for queuing, timed ticketing entry and reduced guest capacity on vessels.
  • Crew Member Health Checks: A Health Check will be conducted for each employee at the start of their shift. Hornblower Niagara Cruises will also equip team members with the tools they need to provide increased protection such as more frequent Training, access to PPE as well as increased hygiene, disinfection and sanitation practices.

Travel Advisory: CORONAVIRUS COVID-19

In these unprecedented and challenging times, we all must do what we can to support Canada and the rest of the world’s efforts to lessen the impact of COVID-19. At Hornblower Niagara Cruises, we are doing our part to help safeguard our staff and guests.

While there have been no reported cases of the virus in our operations, in order to help slow the community spread of COVID-19 and in accordance with recommendations by the Governments of Canada and Ontario, the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC), and other local health departments, we are postponing our opening date until further notice.

This is not a decision taken lightly, and we understand how disappointing this may be for those who were planning a visit to Niagara Falls, Canada and looking forward to one of our iconic voyages to the Falls. For guests who already purchased tickets with us, our team will be in touch shortly to reschedule your experience for a future date or make other arrangements.

Hornblower Niagara Cruises to Postpone Opening

NIAGARA FALLS, ON — To ensure the health and safety of all staff and guests and following the recommendation of the Government of Ontario, Hornblower Niagara Cruises will be postponing the opening of its 7th operating season, with tentative plans to open on Monday, April 6, 2020.

Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. David Williams, has recommended the immediate suspension of all indoor gatherings over 250 people to help contain the spread of COVID-19. Hornblower Niagara Cruises joins The Niagara Parks Commission, and Ontario’s other attraction agencies and convention centres in responding to this recommendation.

“While we were looking forward to our earliest opening ever on March 28th, the health and safety of our guests and our staff is our priority. Hornblower Niagara Cruises is committed to doing its part to help contain the spread of COVID-19,” said Mory DiMaurizio, Hornblower Niagara Cruises Vice President and General Manager.

“Hornblower Niagara Cruises supports the Government of Ontario’s priority on ensuring the health of Ontarians and visitors to the province. We will continue to monitor ongoing events and undertake the precautions and best practices recommended by public health experts and will be providing updates as the situation with COVID-19 evolves,” added DiMaurizio.

Hornblower Niagara Cruises will be contacting guests who have booked tickets to arrange for refunds or adjust their cruise tickets to a later date.

Travel Advisory: CORONAVIRUS COVID-19

As you may know, the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) is responding to an outbreak of respiratory disease caused by a coronavirus. The virus has been detected in numerous locations internationally, including Canada.

At Hornblower the safety, health and wellbeing of our guests and crewmembers is our number one priority.​

We are very much open for business as usual and look forward to welcoming you aboard soon.

There have been no reported cases of the virus in our operations, we are closely monitoring the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) and World Health Organization’s (WHO) statements regarding the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases and following the guidelines from these agencies and the local health departments.

Hornblower has an excellent safety and sanitation track record. We have always operated and maintained a rigorous process around cleanliness and hygiene that is externally audited to ensure quality and compliance, this includes proper and frequent hand washing, thorough disinfection of food preparation surfaces before and after service, alongside regular sanitization of our vessels before and after service. In addition to our standard measures and elevating awareness and education of onboard crewmembers at daily shift meetings, we have increased the frequency and focus of our cleaning procedures and elevated the cleaning and sanitizing frequencies of high touch areas (such as handrails and door knobs) and other surfaces.

To assist our guests’ booking decisions with Hornblower Niagara Cruises during the evolving worldwide COVID-19 situation, we are making temporary changes to our cancellation policy:

  • If your boat tour or cruise is cancelled because public health authorities’ decisions, we will fully refund your purchase.
  • If you are unable to join for your experience due to an illness or because of travel to a restricted area (PHAC Level 3 region), we will apply the purchase you have made toward any future experience offered in 2020, or we will fully refund your purchase based on your decision.

Protecting yourself from cold, flu, influenza and coronavirus
Some ways to protect yourself include:

  • Avoid close contact (such as handshakes, hugs etc.) with people, especially those who are sick
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • Stay home when you are sick, except to get medical care
